Clarity creates alignment

When good people in your team are pulling in different directions the problem may not be with the people. More often it's good people doing what they believe to be the right thing - it's just a different right thing to what you intended.

And what happens when you have 'that conversation'? They're surprised, hurt, pissed off, and slowly (if you're lucky) the enthusiasm and initiative they once showed dissipates and, what's worse, you find yourself becoming that directive micro-manager you so despised.

This is one of the problems we are here to solve and, we probably shouldn't say this, it's an easier fix than you might think.
